Maslin Beach Nude Olympics, Adelaide, Australia
Maslin Beach is a coastal suburb in the south of Adelaide, South Australia. It lies within the City of Onkaparinga local government area, and neighbours the suburbs Moana, Port Willunga, and McLaren Vale. The southern half of Maslin Beach was declared Australia's first official nude beach in 1975. The cliff-lined beach is some 3km in length, and so the area reserved for nude bathing is some distance from other beach users.
Nude beaches are fairly common, though carefully regulated, throughout Australia. Maslin Beach is officially known as the first nude beach in the country and in order to honor that distinction the Maslin Nude Beach Olympics are held there each year.
Participants usually gather on a hot summer day (usually near Australia Day in January) to run in the 3-legged race (the one where you tie your feet together, folks). There’s even a competition to determine who has the best naked rear end, too. Head on down and celebrate life while embracing the way you entered the world - buck naked.
Naked contestants are cheered on by crowds on the overlooking cliffs. One of the organisers said: "The most popular activity for adults is of course Miss Maslin Junior and Miss Maslin Senior and for the males we've got the best bottom competition." Other events included a nude tug of war and a nude sack race.
