World Record Skinny Dip, North America
The Guinness World Record created a new category for the largest number of people skinny dipping at once and the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) set up naked dips all across Canada and the United States. All across the country, Americans stripped down.
134 nudists jumped into a pool at Sky Farm in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. All the participants had to be completely nude at 3 p.m. exactly and have water up to their shoulders to fulfill the guidelines. "Thank you for being part of nudist history," said Cindy Thiboutout, who served as coordinator for the APP reports.
At the same time, 317 visitors at the White Tail nudist resort in Ivor, Va., crowded into the community pool. “It was great,” Duane Ison told the Virginian-Pilot. “It’s really a lot of fun.” Ison and his wife had been to the resort five times, but many of the swimmers were new to skinny dipping, and just wanted to be a part of the world record, the Pilot reports. “It was fantastic for us,” said Carolyn Hawkins, a spokeswoman for the American Association for Nude Recreation. “We attracted new members, people came from all the country just to help break the record.”
This is the first year for the huge skinny dip. The current count for the dippers is about 12,000 Hawkins told the Daily News, and they are still counting. “Whatever the record is, we can’t wait to break it next year,” said Hawkins.
